Busy Busy

I've been away for awhile (not that anyone's noticed ;)
Eric was sick, I wasn't feeling well and my job (and puppy) are keeping me busy.
A brief up to date:
Django has gotten HUGE!! He's no nearly 40 pounds and about 21" high. He's getting more and more handsome by the minute. Today he got his rabies shot, so next week he'll start handling classes. He will be shown at the DPCA Nationals in KY in the Futurity Nominated catagory. I'm not sure if that will be his first show or not...we'll have to see how he's maturing. He's got at least 2 months before he can hit the show ring.
Nina's been busy with bite sports and agility. She THRIVES for the bite sports, and I believe we're going to train to compete in the Ring. She enjoys agility, but not the way she enjoys her bite work. I'm considering cutting out the agility and training bite twice a week.
Django was evaluated for bite sports..and he shows some promise. He was tired, it was the first hot/humid day, so we couldn't blame him. Ethan (our trainer) said he wouldn't worry unless he was a Malinois (lol).
I've started both dogs on a RAW diet, consisting of whole prey. While I'm a bit nervous about all the bones, it seems to be going well so far. He has FINALLY had firm stools. They both LOVE their raw meals. I'm hoping once they realize they're getting it everday, they'll slow down! I have to hold the meat so they don't hurry so much. Nina is a GREAT chewer, but Django would inhale it if I let him.
ALSO, another BIG milestone. Nina no longer needs to be in her Kennel!!!! She is now in the kitchen, and if she can prove herself to be a good girl for a month she will graduate to the kitchen and stair well. We'll progress to open small areas of the house a month at a time as long as she doesn't digress.
That's about it for now. I may start blogging more explicitly about their Raw diet.

What's Up Dr. Brad?!

Today was Django's first vet visit. He took it like a champ. He growled at the office kitty (Bob) at first, but warmed up to him and tried to apologize. Bob didn't want an apology, so he stuck his butt up at hi, turned away. Django didn't seem to mind too much though. He loved Dr. Brad and the techs. He's got a clean bill of health, and the Doc said he was one of the best puppies to walk in there (Don't tell Nina!). So a little fish oil to help his coat and he was on his way. He didn't mind his shots or nasal mist one bit! He's such a little super trooper!

In the Swing of Things

We're starting to get a routine down with food, potty breaks and playtime. So far he's been a great little boy. He even ran to the door last night when he had to go out!!! I was soooo proud of him. He could tell, because he just pranced right back in that door with his head held high.
It poured rain here, and for dober-puppies that's NOT a good thing. The posts can't get too wet or they have to be redone. That can be a real pain in the arse! The process isn't horrible, but it's tedious....and puppies want to play, NOT hold still!!! Django was great though, and I couldn't have asked for him to be better behaved.
While his ears were down, he and Nina had a nice romping session. They play so well together. After a while Nina looks at us like, "Can you make him go away now, I want to snuggle!" So he goes and lies in his crate for a much needed nap, and Nina gets some "Girl" time.
Hopefully my attempt at some pictures here works:

The Explanation

This blog is intended to log the life and times of Nina, a 2 year old doberman pinscher; and her new brother, Django, an 11 week old doberman pinscher. We've had Nina since she was 10 weeks old. She's been the most fantastic dog a person could want, so we decided to add Django to our little Dober-family. He came to us on April 18, 2009!!

We're a husband/wife household living in the outskirts of Washington,DC. We own a small townhome, but are very active, so Dobermans work quite well for us. When I refer to "We" in my blogs, most likely I am speaking of me (Amanda) and my husband (Eric).
Enjoy the blog, and all the pictures too!!
